To equip those who may encounter survivors of modern slavery to respond appropriately, we have brought together several local organisations for a joint online session on the 23rd of June 11:00-12:30.
Modern slavery is a serious crime affecting people of all backgrounds across the UK. There are concerns that the current COVID-19 crisis is exacerbating precarious situations including housing, mental health, and destitution, leaving survivors of modern slavery even more isolated and vulnerable to exploitation
Through this online session, speakers will:
- Outline what modern slavery is and the vulnerability surrounding survivors
- Explain what support is available for potential victims – particularly through the National Referral Mechanism
- How the current situation may be affecting modern slavery, what signs you may be able to look out for and how to report a potential incidents
- Allow you to ask any questions you have
Speakers:
- Pamela Mawoza, South Yorkshire Area Lead, Ashiana Sheffield
- Rachel Medina, Head of Operations, Snowdrop Project
- Chair: Megan Bethell, Coordinator, South Yorkshire Modern Slavery Partnership
Representatives from Shelter will also be available to answer any questions in relation to the current situation and homelessness and what they are calling for at a national policy level.
